Naturopathic Medicine is a comprehensive primary health care system that integrates many traditional systems of medicine with scientific advances and research. As such, your ND might use multiple modalities on your path to wellness.
Incorporating nutritional therapy for the most part involves ‘cleaning up the diet’; this includes a discussion on dietary modifications and supplements most likely to be beneficial for one’s health, and identifying those that are more likely to be ineffective or unnecessary. Many deficiencies can be identified during the history and physical exam, while others may be found through laboratory testing.
Botanical medicine is the use of plants and plant extracts in order to treat a variety of conditions. A form of medicine for millenia across cultures, the use of plant extracts is an effective modality for a range of ailments. Herbs used at the clinic are either ‘wild-crafted’ or organic, and formulations are customized to address the needs of each patient. They range from pill-form, tablets, tinctures, to teas.
Asian Medicine/ Acupuncture:
Practiced for thousands of years and originating in China, Traditional Chinese Medicine focuses on the balance of yin and yang and healthy flow of Chi (energy). This is achieved by assessing overall symptoms, physical findings, and addressing concerns through a unique treatment plan that may include Eastern herbology, dietary changes, and acupuncture. At Seaway Naturopathic, we combine Eastern and Western methodology, diagnosis and techniques to prevent and address health concerns.
Also offered at the clinic is facial rejuvenation acupuncture, which aims to address the aging process. Contact for information.
Homeopathic medicine uses minute amounts of natural substances in order to stimulate the body’s innate ability to heal. Based on the principle of “like cures like”, homeopathic medicine is an energetic medicine developed and used for several hundred years. The selection of remedies is completely dependent on your specific symptoms.
Appropriate exercises are a part of the rehabilitation process in order to restore physical function. Naturopathic doctors are also trained in joint manipulation. After proper assessment of joint mobility, manipulations are made in order to restore balance and function to the area of concern. Manipulations are often accompanied by acupuncture or other soft tissue work.
